David Newton, Class of 2011

David Newton grew up in Spartanburg, SC and attended Spartanburg High School. At Spartan High, David played Varsity Tennis for 3 years and was a member of Beta Club, Humanitarian Club and Mu Alpha Theta. His main extracurricular focus over the years was music: David has played piano for 13 years and also enjoys singing and playing several other instruments. He sang in his school's show choir and his church's choir, played piano in jazz band, worked as a piano accompanist for several children's choirs, and was a member of a successful band in the upstate of South Carolina called Sing Sing 76. At the beginning of his senior year, David's family moved to Prospect, KY where David attended North Oldham High School and graduated valedictorian. David hopes to explore areas of math, music, and philosophy at Centre and is ecstatic about the opportunities that lie ahead of him.
