Atticus Gurley, Class of 2011

University: University of Louisville

Atticus Gurley graduated from Scott High School in Taylor Mill, KY. While in high school, he was a member of the track and field team and the state semifinalist boys’ soccer team and played percussion in the concert, marching, and pep bands. He also was a member of National Honor Society and the Spanish Club; was captain of the academic team; was a Hanner’s Heroes Shining Star Mentor to elementary school students; was on the boys’ soccer coach search committee and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Steering Committee; was the president of Hispanic Honor Society; and was the founder and president of the Philosophy Club. Atticus is currently a National Merit Scholar who plans to double major with a Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with the intention of translating or interpreting for the United States government. He is the chairperson of the Political Activism Committee for commonGround; a member of the Library Student Advisory Board, T2, the UofL Tae Kwon Do Club, and The Frames intramural ultimate frisbee team; a Shadow Host; and a volunteer for Adelante Hispanic Achievers, being awarded Volunteer of the Month for November 2011.
